In 1924, the members of St. George Country Club purchased a large tract of land in St. George and built a golf course on it, which opened as The Country Club in 1926. In 1925, St. George hosted the U.S. Open which was won by Gene Sarazen and Jack Nicklaus.

After a fire in August 1950, the course was rebuilt and reopened on 11 September 1951 as The Country Club of St. George.
